Founded in 2010 by Dan Sobol and Lisa Hess, SkyTop seeks to achieve superior long-term returns by investing in companies and industries undergoing significant transformation. The investment strategy is concentrated and thematic, utilizing our differentiated supply chain expertise as a competitive advantage.
SkyTop Principals, Dan Sobol and Lisa Hess, have worked together closely for 16 years in similar capacities. Founding Members have worked together for 9 years since the firm’s launch in 2010.
Dan is a Founding Principal of SkyTop and oversees the firm’s portfolio management and trading functions. Prior to establishing SkyTop in 2010, Dan managed a special situations and opportunistic strategy at Loews Corporation with assets reaching $230 million. From 2002-2010, he was a member of a diverse team at Loews managing $40 billion in assets and held a leadership role on a four-person distressed team managing over $1 billion in assets. Previously, from 1992-1996, he was a Supply Chain Manager at Wegmans Food Markets.
Dan received his MBA in Finance from The Wharton School of The University of Pennsylvania in 2002 and a Bachelor’s of Science in Economics from Cornell University in 1992, where he was a Division I wrestler.
Lisa is a Founding Principal of SkyTop and oversees the firm’s risk management function. Currently, she is a Trustee of TIAA (Teachers Insurance and Annuity Association) and serves on the Board of Directors of Radian Group, Inc. From 2002-2008, Lisa was the Chief Investment Officer of Loews Corporation, responsible for all the non-control investments of Loews and its subsidiaries. Assets consisted of three separate pools of capital: $40 billion for CNA, a multi-line insurance company; $8 billion in holding company investments; and $2 billion in pension funds.
Prior to her career at Loews, Lisa was a Founding Partner of Zesiger Capital Group, a diversified money manager dedicated to investing across all asset classes. Professional honors include serving on the United States Treasury Debt Advisory Committee and the Federal Reserve Bank of New York Investors Advisory Committee. She received her MBA from the University of Chicago and her A.B. from Harvard College.
Justin is a Founding Member of SkyTop and oversees the firm’s operations, financial, and compliance functions. Prior to joining SkyTop in 2010, Justin was the Assistant Controller at Shumway Capital, a $9 billion multi-asset class hedge fund. He was responsible for the accounting, tax, and financial fund reporting. Prior to Shumway, he was a Senior Auditor at Deloitte focusing primarily on audits of hedge funds. He received his BSBA in Accounting from Bucknell University in 2004, where he was a Division I wrestler, and is a Certified Public Accountant licensed in the State of New York.
